Library

And that is the last day of the summer holidays.

CyclopsJnr had free choice of what we did today, and he wanted to keep it low key rather than having a day out.

Obviously he wanted to be experimenting with the new school iPad so that interspersed everything else. He messed about on Garage Band, Reading Eggs, and created a little booklet about the Red Arrows - all on his own initiative.

In the morning we gathered everything together for school tomorrow. He has so much equipment you'd think he was off to boarding school. Ok I'm joking, but it is three bags of stuff. We had to check everything against the list including a lot of clothes and shoes and the minimum contents of the pencil case, and charge electronic stuff, and ensure all was name labelled (just Sharpie, that's been the most hard-wearing) and sharpen a lot of pencils. New this year is the iPad of course, plus games kit. Games kit is IN ADDITION to PE kit (which is t-shirt and shorts, tracksuit and trainers). Games kit includes more sports clothing (different shorts, reversible games top, knee length socks, under-layer) plus swimsuit, mouth guard (needed to be boiled and moulded), studded boots and shin guards. We have not even yet collated the games kit as it isn't needed until next week, but it is bought.

We then went to the library. CyclopsJnr had read a book he loved (Escape from planet Alcatraz) so he was excited to get the next in the series. He had also seen The Worst Witch on TV and heard this was a book series so he asked the librarian about this and she patiently looked it up for him and showed him how to find it on the shelf. They are so lovely at the library. CyclopsJnr also received some goodies following the summer reading challenge (read six books) - a certificate, medal, stickers and golden pencil. This pleased him.

We then went to Morrison's next door to see if they had sports socks (where are all of CyclopsJnr's sports socks?) but they didn't. However we came away with a t-shirt, new pencil case and notebook for drumkit lessons.

At home we swapped the equipment in for the new pencil case and CyclopsJnr decorated his notebook. He wanted to draw a badger on it, so he researched badgers on his iPad then used this to draw a picture for the front of the notebook.

We then went out to play basketball on the court for about an hour.

Finally we three got the bus into town and had dinner at Wildwood to mark the end of the summer and raise a toast to P4.
