Karri

The ABC tree vote is now down to a list of ten favourite trees. One is the karri (eucalyptus diversicolor), a stately gum tree that can grow to 90m or more and is found around Pemberton in Western Australia. It's one of the tallest tree species in the world.

Apart from being beautiful karri are also useful. The tallest karri were used as fire lookouts (extras) and Karri blocks were used to pave some of the streets in early Sydney.

We saw them in 2010, and No, we didn't climb up to the fire lookout.
