Chateau de Barriere - Villamblard

On the third day of our mini cycle tour, we headed from Grignols down towards the Dordogne river where we started.
After a stop for coffee in the village of Villamblard, we visited the old chateau which proved to be a very interesting visit. It is a 12th century fortress which had fallen into considerable disrepair and was in a ruinous state. In 2000 the local community started the restoration of much of the remains and rebuilt the part to the left of the tower. It now houses an interesting museum and photographs of the restoration work. In the basement there is also a large hall which is used for concerts and other events. The extra was taken from the top of the remains of the tower. I am photo-bombing the main image which was taken by my 'blip assistant'.
