White Face Mountain

Today’s adventure was White Face Mountain. We made it to the top, 5000 feet above sea level. Don’t be too impressed though, we drove up the mountain for 5miles then you had a choice to walk up or take the tunnel to the elevator.  We chose the elevator to go up and then we walked down. The views were spectacular. We were told that if you had a very clear day you could see across to Montreal. Today was not clear enough for that. The lake that you see is Lake Placid with the islands that are on it. Later we took a one hour boat tour around Lake Placid and viewed some of the spectacular homes that are on the shoreline. Some are boat access only. Most of the homes are summer homes that are only used a few weeks out of the year. You can no longer build along the shoreline or on the islands ( there are only 14 residences, otherwise known as camps). In the winter the lake will freeze and people will snow shoe or ski on it. The collage shows some other views of the area with the bottom two views of White Face Mtn. from Mirror Lake on the left and Lace Placid on the right.
