Fallen

A band of dark clouds passed over us this morning and made us hope for rain. But once again, only a few drops made it to the ground and evaporated immediately.

Later, when we met our friend and former neighbour B for a walk, the Summer of 2022 had resumed its default setting of 30+ degrees C and sunshine.

It might have been the last walk with B. He’s had enough of the hot, parched Rhein-Main area. In September he will be moving to a village in the Black Forest that’s almost 1000 m high and has more than three times more rain than Frankfurt.

On our way through the orchards, we passed many apple trees like this one - severely drought-stressed, with most of the very small fruit already rotting on the ground. A pity.
