New event on beach.

There was an event on at the East Sands beach when we walked past this afternoon. The inaugural Home International Rowing (HIR) Beach Sprints event was being hosted by Scottish Rowing, in partnership with the University of St Andrews and Fife Sports and Leisure Trust. Teams from Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales were competing in “Beach Sprints”, an emerging international discipline that starts with a sprint on the beach of between 10m and 50m. After entering the boat, the boat slaloms around a set course and rows straight back to the beach before one of the rowers exits the boat and runs to the finish line. Beach Sprints may be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
