Bwana Misitu

Mister Forest.

I was addressed as Bwana Misitu today by Yusuf, my Swahili teacher. We also revised verbs. It was interesting (as well as telling) when we stumbled on the different ways of talking about marriage for men and women.

When referring to a man, the verb is ‘to marry’ whereas for a woman the form is the more passive ‘to be married’ or ‘to get married’. Subtle differences in language are revealing, in this case in the traditional role that men and women have played in marriage decisions.

My colleague Richard passed by the office with his twins, Ivan and Ivania. Full equality here between the sexes.

On the way home I went to look for shelves.

Sunset vibes with a man sitting on a rock.
