John Muir Way

Musselburgh is on the John Muir Way (founder of the National Parks in the USA), which takes you along the 134 walking/cycling route between Helensburgh in the west, to Dunbar in the east.

John Muir was born in 1838 in Dunbar, and died 76 years later in Los Angeles.

His letters, essays, and books describing his adventures in nature, especially in the Sierra Nevada, have been read by millions. His activism helped to preserve the Yosemite Valley and Sequoia National Park, and his example has served as an inspiration for the preservation of many other wilderness areas throughout the world.

Probably one of East Lothian’s most favourite sons.

Have a good Sunday all.
