On Fire

The West is ablaze: McKinney, Dixie, Cedar Creek.
Hurricanes loom, Yellowstone floods,
ice melts from the peaks.

On our valley farm,
eight trees fall to the heat.
Is this inferno something we beat?

Trees green needles turning to rust.
If this happens to trees,
what happens to us?
