Too hot for dragons

It was scorching hot (30 degrees) when I set off to walk the butterfly transect. For the first time this year I counted more dragonflies than butterflies. I saw several Common Darter's adopting the obelisk pose in which the abdomen is raised to point at the sun to minimise exposure and aid thermoregulation.
