Everything Grows Extravagantly - by Cheryl Frances-Hoad (evening)

Pre concert talk by Cheryl and Libby Purves (Pianist) gave a fascinating insight into this new work and the process of transfer to musicians.

It's a set of 13 inter-related but discrete complete songs about flowers and other elements of the Oxford Botanical Garden. It's premiere was included in The Times's top 5 musical performances of the year. It was written with the voice of the Southwell Music Festival Founder's voice - Marcus Farnsworth (Baritone). It was he who again performed it with Libby for us, for it's third time,  with a tour to follow. The poet Kate Wakeling did the research and provided the lyrics.

Humour as well as depth and complexity e.g. the song title below (bold) with the single lyric, right at the end..

On Waiting to Inhale the Rare and Intoxicating Scent of the Queen of the Night Cactus Which Blooms for Just a Single Evening Once a Year

Minster School Musicians (morning)
Both diploma level, a female flortist and a pianist who's a family friend. I was stunned by his virtuosic performances of Listz, and in particular a Ukranian composer (dropped my fringe programme sheet again!).    E4
