Shoes on the Danube Bank

We walked all over Budapest today and saw lots of  beautiful gothic architecture, but the shoes on the Danube made the biggest impression on me. The shoes honor the Jews who were massacred during WWII.  They were ordered to take off their shoes ( to be  stolen and resold) and were shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away. It is a very solemn display and a good reminder of that terrible time in history.
Grateful for…over 19,000 steps….a spectacular boat ride on the Danube at night…..the beauty of Budapest and their friendly people.
