My Very Favorite Plant Name (of all time!)

Nemesis:  'one that inflicts retribution or vengeance'. This flower is from a  plant called 'Flyr's Nemesis' Brickellia cordifolia. It's a perennial wildflower native to only a very few locations in Florida's central panhandle and in Alachua County outside of Gainesville. It has also been reported in a few areas in Georgia and Alabama. It is on Florida's 'endangered species' list and is listed globally as a 'G2/G3 species (imperiled globally because of rarity or very vulnerable to extinction). I originally purchased mine at our Butterfly Rainforest Plant sale this past year. It grows up to five' tall and reportedly loves areas of sandy soil, so mine is very happy where I've planted it. Butterflies and bumblebees adore it! Flyr's Nemesis was named for Dr. Lowell David Flyr, a botanist who reportedly died in a car accident while searching for this plant in southwest Georgia. His story is pretty interesting but too involved to share it in this space.
In the *extra...Black Swallowtail Caterpillars on the fennel. Top photo: carrying it's own supply of water hahaha and at right bottom: a 'frass' nugget most likely dropped from above by another caterpillar. 'Frass' is the name given to caterpillar 'poop'.
Wishing All a Peaceful Weekend! m
