Captain's Day

It was Captain's Day at our bowls club today, starting with the so-called Champagne Spider whereby the 40 players take up a position around the green and simultaneously bowl a single wood towards a jack placed at the centre of the green. Out of the ensuing chaos of woods colliding and the jack being hit several times the owner of the wood nearest the jack won the champagne - great fun. The main event was then the men versus ladies in an 18-end match which was hotly contested and the men eventually victorious.

This was all followed by an American Supper with speeches and prizes including the culmination of a competition running over several weeks to 'find the joker (from a pack of cards)' with one of our lady members winning the prize pot of £259! By all accounts a good time was had by all :-)
