great day

The difference a good boss makes.

I've left jobs and had people surprise me with mushiness. I've had people leave and, on their way out, surprise me with mushiness. I've never understood it. Now I understand it. It is dramatic what a difference a good boss makes.

Also wonderful today, remember the boy from across the street who got my car for his family? I got to see him again today. Today was the first day of school. He loves history and math and Samuel and the car is perfect.

Ukrainians are protecting their country and their families. Russians aren't. The Ukrainian military allows greater innovation. The Russian military has all decisions happen at the top, to such an extent that high-level officers have to go to the front lines and put themselves at risk. This means that Ukrainian soldiers are innovative and Russian soldiers are not.

I just learned that in addition to "jerry-rig" there is a term, "jury-rig."
Jury-rigged means something was assembled quickly with the materials on hand. Jerry-built means it was cheaply or poorly built. Ukrainians have "jury-rigged" weapons and equipment. They mounted missiles on trucks and can move them more quickly. They put rockets on speedboats and increased their naval warfare ability. They use Bayraktar drones in ways they were never intended. The company's CEO praised their ability to "squeeze as much as possible out of these systems." Even though they move slowly, Ukraine has used them and the inexpensive consumer drones to destroy Russian targets, modifying them to drop grenades and other munitions.

To attack the Moskva they developed their own anti-ship missile. They mounted them onto trucks. The Moskva was the first time the Neptune has been used in a war.

Ukrainians put American-supplied HARM anti-radiation missiles onto Soviet-designed fighter jets - something no air force had ever done - because they aren't compatible.

Russia, on the other hand, is buying Iranian drones and they are having technical failures.

Ukraine is on the attack to regain Kherson. They were able to push back Russian troops because the elite Russian paratroopers failed to support them and fled. They aren't attacking Russian forces directly but weakening their positions around the city to force them to withdraw.
