The Sir Samuel Way building

Something special to celebrate my 10 years of blips - yesterday. Thank you for all of the comments, stars and hearts for my 10 years anniversary.

This building was originally the Charles Moore & Co. Department Store. The store was destroyed by fire in 1948, rebuilt and operated as a retail department store until 1980. At the end of 1982 it reopened as the Supreme Court of South Australia.

The design of the store was based on the colonaded Galleries Lafayette in Paris. The extra photo shows how the Carara marble staircase and Ionic columns used to look, in 1916.

The original staircase marble was retained, and my main photo shows how it looks today. It is no longer possible to take a photo from the same spot as in 1916. The yellow tinge on the white marble is due to the interior lighting. I should add that this was the first time I have ever been inside this building! For more information, see Paladian's blip.
