Breakey Blips

Spend a Penny!

While every other participant at the Oyster Festival was bemoaning the terrible wet weather, St John's Church had a win.

Suddenly, we had the best toilets that were warm AND dry! We invited all the traders to visit for a break, and also any visitors to the festival.

Thankfully, 90% of the action was undercover, but it slowed down people's enthusiasm to show up at all. Thank goodness for prepaid tickets!

Our flyers worked, and by the time I had returned from sharing flyers, some folk had arrived. It took us by surprise, we hadn't set out tables and the chairs were still set in pew formation. So some fast chair rearrangement was required.

By the end of the day, we had welcomed 30 or so visitors, plus lots of parishioners in to get dry and stay for a chat. It was a rather social day in the end. From a basket for 'pennies', we raised about £40 for Pakistan.

I raised some eyebrows in the market tent when I conducted taste testing of a blend of whiskey whilst wearing my dog collar. Some people shock too easily!
The delicious blend was made by one of the traders who invited us to try their whiskey in return for washing all their sample glasses.
