Not a fairy door

Here is the bike path that runs above the town's by-pass and as the dog and I walked along it I noticed the cat-flap style doorway in the fence on one side and then the tubular subway on the opposite side,  to allow badgers a safe route  to cross the road. There's not much sign that the flap and tube are in current use but then  the badgers may have made other arrangements in the 20 years since these were installed.

I was reminded of the fairy door debate. Should children be encouraged to believe in imaginary beings in nature or to look out for actual wild life?  The two are not imcompatible of course. Children are quite capable of understanding the difference and of being engaged by both. It's adults who get into such a flap about it.
