The Shrine

As well as being an ancient county East Lothian (previously known as Haddingtonshire), there was a more recent industrial history, which included mining, as well as brickworks, glassworks etc.

To honour this proud history, and to remember those who lost their lives in the mines (as well as to those who worked in treacherous and wretched conditions), a memorial shine was unveiled in 2017.

It important to remember and salute these people, who gave so much … even though we now look down on coal as being a principal wrecker of the environment.  It’s all about context, and what was known or not, at the time.

Anyway, I hope you are having a good Sunday.
