Hummingbird Hawk Moth

This year has been really good for Hummingbird Hawk Moths; they have been regular visitors to our garden homing in on the buddleia and the lavender blooms.  They are a migrant from southern Europe and they give photographers quite a challenge with their rapid, darting flight.

Notice how the wing movement is so rapid that a shutter speed of one five thousanth of a second has not frozen the wing tips.
