If you can't beat them...

Tower of the Winds.

As we wanted to do a couple of land based things we returned to the marina this morning.  Kat took Solace down to the service berth for the fuel and toilet pump out.  Unfortunately, the pump out machine was out of order so it was back to the jetty.

Then we took the car down the road to the Shugborough NT property.  Clickychick and I had been before when we were invited to a Lilliput Lane craft fair.  We had however not really had a look round the grounds let alone the house.  An interesting and beautiful place.

The blip is of "The tower of the Winds".  Originally built in 1765 on an island in the middle of a lake.  What happened to the lake I have no idea but it is firmly on dry land now.  It seems to have been originally purely decorative but in 1803 it was repurposed with a working dairy in the basement, an ornamental dairy (whatever one of those was) on the ground floor, and a banqueting room on the first floor.

It is looking particularly good as it had extensive exterior conservation in 2021.
