A Rare Commodity

I have a collection of interesting metal covers  in the street. We don't have sewer or water lines on our street because we're all on wells and despite the fact that the creek is down to a trickle, water is more important than ever, power is needed to pump the water. If they can bury gas and water lines, why is it so difficult to bury electric lines?

The heat wave continues The high today was 114F (44.444C). We've been told that it is a 'flex alert' day meaning we're suppose to conserve energy during peak hours of 4pm to 9pm. The two things that require power during those hours are the air conditioning and the fridge. We held out on the AC until 3 pm or so, but then decided to turn it on.

I felt decidedly ancient when a neighbor called to see if we were alright. I told her that other than not having the energy to do anything, we were fine. We're used to hot weather, but this is fairly unprecedented. We're going to Jim and Dana's tonight. My brain seems to have stopped working so I'll just go have yet another glass of water....
