Ancient gold

Highlight of the trip so far (well, mine anyway! :D) was a visit to the excavation of the prehistoric city at Akrotiri. The excavation - currently 3 acres, approximately 3% of the estimated size of the city - is covered by a  wonderful slatted roof that lets in both air and natural light. At the time we went this morning (just ahead of the bus tours - phew!) sunlight was streaming in, painting the ruins with gold.
