Two Hearts Beat As One

Yes, it's anopther apple shot, but look carefully and you will see a strange phenomenon: two apples are joined at the hip!  I've seen this occasionally in other plants, tomatoes and figs for instance, but not in apples. This condition is called fasciation (something it took me a few google minutes to discover).

Fasciation is caused by a hormonal imbalance that can result in mutation in a single cell in the central zone, or tip, of the meristem. 


Some plants with this condition are valued and cultivated for their aberration, and some are just weird.
