Basilica of Santa Bonifacio e Alessio all’Aventino

Rome is a city of churches.  We came across the Basilica of Santa Bonifacio e Alessio all’Aventino as we were racing back home to avoid an electrical storm.  Most of the churches in Rome seem to be monuments more than operating regularly as places of worship, so it was especially great to hear the choir in full voice for Sunday mass challenging the thunder above.

I added a photo of the approaching storm, again a bit fuzzy on a cellphone. It’s hot in Rome at the moment … 30-40 degrees on many days and sticky with it.  Every now and then a thunder storm cleans the air. Although climate change will undoubtedly bring more extreme weather events in future, there is no apparent consensus on whether severe electrical storms will increase in frequency, intensity or duration.
