Geothermal Lake

Today was supposed to be waterfall day - however the weather had other ideas. The road to Dettifoss was closed - we ended up having to turn back. However, this little lake near Skútustaðahreppur turned out to be an absolute bonus - gorgeous pastel blues in the middle and darker blues by the shore.

There was a yellow sulphur-stained rock belching out gas; the pipes were throwing steam over the lake which meant the stench of sulphur was everywhere - but that didn't stop us staying there to take photos!

On the way back we experienced a total white-out - for a very small section of the road we could only see one pole ahead; thankfully it cleared up a little to allow us to drive back to the hotel. Since we couldn't do much more, we spent the end of the afternoon in Akureyri.
