James Watt, Artist

By JamesWatt

James Watt?

Greenock? James Watt?

For many that will mean the college. For others the engineer and thoughts of the steam engine.

And for others it's the artist, born in Port Glasgow in 1931.

James Watt's paintings of the Clyde and Clydeside will be exhibited at the Beacon Centre in Greenock in June, and schools are already getting ready to take part.

Pupils are going to be finding out about the way in which Watt thinks about his artwork. This detail from the mural in the Port Glasgow Town Hall is a little unusual for the artist, in that people are included in the painting. Good image for 1st May, though!

Pupils will be finding out about the artist, and we'll be sharing their work, as well as the artist's, as they work together. His paintings are a great social history of Clydeside.
