Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth

While in the UK in 2006 for a two week visit to take our youngest son to Oxford for a semester, we had the good fortune to see the Queen in person.  During our sightseeing in London, we went to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard and as luck would have it, the Queen drove out and her car passed right by us.

A week later, after we had taken our boy to Oxford, we caught the train to Edinburgh. On our first morning, we decided to visit Edinburgh Castle.  As luck would have it, the Queen was visiting as well and we had the opportunity to see her a second time.  It was really quite thrilling and we couldn't believe our luck!

These pictures were taken with a little Sony Point and Shoot and this was well before I knew anything about photography, but I am still quite happy to have them.

We are very saddened to hear of her death and send our deepest sympathy to the people of the UK and around the world who are mourning her loss.  She was a great woman and was universally admired. Here in the U.S., they have shown numerous photos and videos during the TV coverage of the 14 U.S. presidents who met her during her reign and they all seemed to be  quite star-struck.
