John O’Groats,Caithness

Coming off the ferry at Gills Bay we did a slight detour. As we’d been to Land’s End back in May we really had to go to John O’Groats! As a bit of trivia, the name comes from Jan de Groot, a 15th century Dutchman who once plied a ferry from the mainland to Orkney.

After having fairly dismal weather all week in Orkney the sun came out this morning so we enjoyed the beautiful Caithness and Sutherland coastline views all the way to our next stop at Nairn.
