Obelisk......

"Still more majestic shalt thou rise,
More dreadful, from each foreign stroke;
As the loud blast that tears the skies,
Serves but to root thy native oak"

- James Thomson, Rule Britannia, verse 3

I noticed this monument near Kelso a while ago but hadn't paid it much attention till today when I was close enough to take a picture. I researched it on line and it is a monument to James Thomson (1700 - 1748) who was born nearby in Ednam and in 1730 wrote the words to Rule Britannia.
