Life through the lens...

Welcome to Cornwall

Our first stop today in Cornwall was Charlestown Harbour.
Very warm and sunny.
It was lunchtime, and we decided a Cornish pasty would be just what we needed.
Sat outside a little cafe in the shade. It was very good too.Just what we needed. No doubt the first of many!

Then a walk down to the sea and round the harbour. We haven’t been for many years, and that was in March.
Such a change today.
Many more restaurants and some little pop up eating places along the harbour side.
There were quite a few people about, but not over busy.
We certainly enjoyed our visit today.

Then called at the small village of Roche.
We found out a couple of days ago that our next door but one neighbour has many relatives living in the village, and as a boy he used to come down every year to stay with his grandma.
He showed us a photo of himself stood on top of the Roche Rock, and so we went to find it today.
See extra.
Atop a 66ft tall Tourmaline Granite outcrop stands a ruined 15th century hermitage.
Built in 1409 and dedicated to Saint Michael.
Surrounded by myth and mystery for hundreds of years.
Last occupied by a family of locals, who stayed here when they contacted leprosy, to avoid infecting the village.
I didn’t climb up! Well didn’t have time.

Arrived at our usual home from home and a lovely welcome from Carol and Graham.
So much to talk about!
The welcome pack included a vase of sunflowers and as always a nice hand painted card from Carol.

Great start to our Cornish holiday.
