The Queen visits a Devon pub

Last night on our local news there was a story about the Queen’s first official visit to a pub, and the first time she was photographed in one. The date was 27 March 1998, celebrating 101 years that the same family had run the pub, which is the Bridge Inn at Topsham. As it happens we were going to Topsham today so we went to look for it, arriving slightly after closing at 3pm. We weren’t able to go inside but were served from the outside hatch by the famous landlady herself, and drank in the garden looking at the river Clyst. The link above tells the whole story.
