Auchtertipper

The desolate ruins of a 19th or early 20th century farmstead at Auchtertipper, North of Duthil. Close to these ruins, which are thought to have been built on the site of an earlier longhouse, are the footings of earlier buildings (extra) and another possible longhouse. There has been an agricultural settlement here since at least the 14th century when Hilda Macdonnell of Auchtertipper is recorded as being the servant of Mariota de Alythn a concubine of the Wolf of Badenoch.

About 1km from the farmhouse is a well preserved corn drying kiln close to a series of 'winter ponds' and a burn - they were probably an illicit whisky still. There are also pools used for flax retting.
