Appreciating Freedom, Part Two

On This Day In History
1974: Violence erupts in Boston over desegregating buses

Quote Of The Day
"I remember riding the buses to protect the kids going up to South Boston High School, and the bricks through the window. Signs hanging out of those buildings, "Nigger Go Home." Pictures of monkeys. The words. The spit. People just felt it was alright to attack children."
(Jean McGuire, bus safety monitor.)

We should be grateful that our children have the freedom to ride a school bus without being jeered at, spat upon or having bricks thrown through the windows.

Boston! 1974! Utterly disgraceful!

"We are in a race between education and catastrophe."
