St. James's Park: Ross'sling in the Spotlight

I had an appointment near Marble Arch, so Im and I went into town via St. James's Park... The Ross'sling was over by the pelicans, so we just watched them for a while rather than walking the whole way around the lake.
Our bus ditched us at Lambeth North (rather than crossing the river), and we had to battle various atypical crowds to cross the park and to reach Mayfair, but things quietened out a bit (to normal Central London levels?) once we got past St. James's Palace. I suppose Westminster, The Strand, and St. James's are the focal points of the various popular pilgrimage routes; I'm relieved that our migration was mostly against the grain...
