Staircase

We are near Market Harborough for the night - a halfway stop between us and Kent (and a bargain Premier Inn of course!). We arrived here this afternoon and Gordon was keen to see the Foxton Locks, which are just a few minutes from where we are staying.

I know very little about canals and locks but I was impressed with this - the largest 'staircase flight' locks on the English canal system. I know the Five Rise Locks in Bingley, but this is a rise of ten locks which allows the canal to climb the steep slope.

Sadly we were too late to watch any boats go through the locks, but it is a lovely place to walk around anyway, a place steeped in history.
