Lunch at the Gurdwara

I was invited to lunch and a tour of the new building in Pollokshields. It was so busy at the Opening last Sunday that I hadn't actually made it inside.

Warmly welcomed, head covered, shoes deposited in a pigeon-hole, off I went upstairs to see the main worship area. Interesting to see the ceremony and hear the scriptures being read in a type of sung speech. On leaving this area, I was offered a small helping of moist cake, with a dumpling consistency, so you leave with a sweet taste in your mouth.

Then, into the kitchen to meet a team of volunteers making various vegetarian curries and a very colourful chapati production line. Last Sunday they made thousands. The ladies were all chanting "God is Great" as they worked together, it was moving to watch.

I sat on the floor in one of the long rows to enjoy lunch of spinach and lentil curries, yoghurt, salad and rice pudding. Everyone was so friendly and keen to share details about their way of life, rituals, worship in the Gurdwara.

Everyone is welcome to go along and find out more, and enjoy free food in the kitchen.
