Will I ever learn?
Our base whilst in St David’s has some enticing fells as a backdrop. A search on the map showed we could walk to the Wales coastal path. The Blue Lagoon sounded interesting. ”Looked” as if food might be available. So off we went.
The GPS on the phone plotted a route to the most fabulous part of the coastline where we could hear loud bellows below us. On looking we could see a number of adult seals with their pups. Absolutely stunning to watch.
Our path to the Blue Lagoon brought us within a few yards of other seals where we spent a few minutes quietly watching before heading on.
Our destination was in sight long before we arrived there and with the benefit of hindsight I wish we had called a halt to our walk there and then.
The Blue Lagoon is an old quarry and the water is the most fabulous colour. But photographically a bit of a let down.
Our destination was also lacking in any refreshment stops so the small amount of food and drink we had brought became our lunch.
The journey back was hard. My initial confidence and enthusiasm for the walk quickly wained.
The final kilometres were tortuous and I’m really not sure how we both made it back.
So how far did we walk? 21 kilometres.
May not sound far to some but along an undulating coastal path it was far too far for us to enjoy. Even if we did see those gorgeous seals.
I didn’t take many iPhone shots along the journey but this is one of those I did.
This stretch of coast is fabulous but perhaps enjoyed best in smaller chunks.
