Brunswick Monument

After a red-eye departure from Aberdeen we arrived in Geneva at about 11:00 am. Far too early to check in at the hotel. After dropping off the luggage we headed out into the sunshine for a stroll and a light lunch.

Arriving in Switzerland it is wise to forget what things cost elsewhere. The rule of thumb is double or three times as mulch as anywhere else in Europe.

Accordingly the light lunch came with a hefty bill, as did dinner later in the day.

The photo shows the Brunswick Monument near the Lake and the Quai de Mont Blanc. I did wonder what the Duke had done to deserve such a magnificent monument. Well, being Switzerland I should have realised he brought a lot of money. A more detailed explanation can be found on Wikipedia. The Jet d”Eau fountain can just be seen to the right of the monument.
