Robin's Pincushion

The Robin's pincushion, also  known as the rose bedeguar gall, mossy rose gall or moss gall, is caused by the gall wasp (Diplolepsis rosae) which lays her eggs in an unopened axillary or terminal bud of a field rose or dog rose.

Extra of one of several Speckled Wood butterflies but one which obligingly sat still and allowed me to come close enough for a photo.
