Flower or not...

In our park are two huge Lebanese pines, these are the pine cones from one of those trees. They are full of gum which you can see trickling off the nearest one.
A quick google leads to discussion regarding whether or not pine cones are flowers, certainly pine trees do not have conventional flowers. What is sure is that this is a pine tree's way of producing seeds.
