Wanderings & Witterings

Betty

It's not often one comes across a shark in a shopping centre, but that's what greeted me on entering the Thistles Centre in Stirling on Thursday.

Betty the Shark is described by its creator as an e-waste sculpture, as can be seen by zooming in on the photo. In the mouth of the shark there's a monitor showing a continuous loop of teenage workers in Cote d'Ivoire (if I remember correctly) sorting through huge piles of discarded tech sent there for 'recycling' and extracting any precious metals and such like, drawing one's attention to the working conditions of these young people.
