More Heritage

Mr Flossmo and I were down in Farnham by 10 o'clock this morning to continue our Heritage Week activities: a visit to Hone's Yard off Downing Street, followed by a talk about E D Abbott's Farnham coachbuilding business.

Hone's Yard is a private property, opened up to the public for Heritage Week. It was wonderful to see an original, small scale hop kiln and 17th century barn and understand a bit more about the hop-drying process (necessary prior to brewing beer).  Apparently the old kiln is now rented out to an artist - what a fantastic place to have a studio.

The talk about E D Abbott was held in the village hall at Badshot Lea. It was fascinating to hear about the various activities that the Abbott works were involved in including building car bodies for other manufacturers, building commercial vehicles and their specialty, car conversions including saloons to estates. Outside the village hall owners had brought a number of Abbott built or converted cars for display (extra). Mr Flossmo was particularly interested in the very rare Bristol 405 cabriolet (extra).
