James Grieve

aka ‘Doris’

Acorn Bank had an apple day today so after some gardening in the morning I walked over. The apples and pears are all looking splendid. I had a chat with the gardener who recognises me now and she showed me some of the local varieties and the most ginormous French ones. If Newton had sat under that tree he’d have been knocked unconscious.
I should have got there earlier, there was only one eater left amongst several Keswick Codlings which are cookers. So this solitary James Grieve had my name on it. Along with a mixed bag of apples that you’d never find in a supermarket, ‘Doris’ was placed snugly in my rucksack and came home with me.
