Last Full Day In the EU

It has been a really enjoyable ride back taking our time and experiencing so many aspects of La France. Quite a tame day really with not one single toilette malfunction, though instead we had a camper van alarm malfunction outside the reception of the latest campsite at Le Crotoy. While I made our reservation L sat in the Black Knight with the door open for fresh air and for some reason the camper van neural network went into full self-preservation mode and the alarm sounded much to the surprise of various onlookers and the poor receptionist who came running out thinking it was her car. Could we switch the thing off? Not likely despite pressing every button we could get our hands on. Eventually it took the guy who was supposed to be escorting us to our spot to sit in the driver’s seat and press a similar number of buttons. Finally the alarm stopped and the engine started again. When I asked what he had done he just shrugged his shoulders ‘Je ne sais pas!’ Anyway very pleasant site with an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Outdoor was beginning to be a wild swimming event and I didn’t bring the wetsuit so indoors it was.
I was also able to do my good turn for the day when I visited reception to ask about the restaurant and as the receptionist tried to make herself understood in broken English to the couple wanting to book a place for the night they reached a linguistic impasse - I offered to be the go between but then realised why they had been struggling so much when she gave me the phone. The couple on the other end were Dutch trying to speak English to the French receptionist who was also speaking in a second language - and so I conversed with them in Dutch and sorted out their misunderstandings with the receptionist. After all the alarm excitement I felt that I had at least redeemed myself and wiped out the rather negative first impression we had made - stupid English Brexiters don’t even know how to switch off their alarm!
Finally after L had befriended some English Neighbors who were spending an extra day before returning to the UK to avoid some event that is causing upheaval - something about a bank holiday I think they said.. we went for a meal at the camp brasserie. Actually this site might just be the pinnacle of campsite luxury. The toilets have electronic automatic doors on entry and exit - though the lighting is so bright that we nearly collided with people in the dark in exiting as we couldn’t see a thing. As L said It was a little like the story in the gospels of the blind man ‘I see men like trees walking’’ Photo shows the moules and L’s crepe - pretty good for an on-site restaurant and now we spend our last night before tunnelling our way back to the UK tomorrow morning.
