Little brother

This is the view from the lookout at the top of North Brother mountain, near Laurieton on the NSW Mid North Coast. There are three mountains, North, Middle and South. In an Aboriginal dreamtime story, they are the burial places of three brothers who were killed by a witch named Widjirriejuggi. North, called Dooragang in the story, was the youngest.

Apparently by coincidence, James Cook named them ‘Three Brothers’ when he passed by this stretch of coast in 1770, because, as he said in his diary, "these Hills bore some resemblance to each other".
