Inside the void...

The first floor of our house is odd. Originally there was a simple wooden floor which was attached to the floor joists. At some point later a false floor was laid on top, with a 5cm void - probably to level it and hide the poor state off it. Beneath it false ceiling was installed with a 20 and 30 cm void. The bathroom floor (on the first floor) was further raised by another 5 cm, so it's higher than the toilet and bedroom on the same floor. There is thus a large void on both sides of the floor, of varying depth. As part of the renovations the architect convinced us to make the dining room ceiling level, by adding another false ceiling to one half to make it level with the second half. In retrospect I should have had them remove the lower of the two and raised the ceiling height of the lower to be the same as the higher...

Anyhow in these various voids (above and below) the original floor there is a rat's nest of conduit and plumbing. Today we were looking to see how it all works, as the other problem is that the void acts as a wind tunnel, and cold air wafts through it all the time, cooling the dining room beneath it and the bedroom, bathroom and toilet above it...

Today's back blip is the inside of the void...!
