To the ends of the earth

To the ends of the earth

Well, what a day. I’ve been putting off thinking about today too much, letting the nation deal with it all in its own way. For us, here in a sleepy Nottinghamshire village called Upton, we went about our business but took the time to respectfully mourn the passing of a great lady, our Queen of 70 years.

Flags were flown at half mast, special services held in our little yet ancient church, memories shared.

Then this morning I walked down a country lane to see two life time residents of our village deep in conversation. One, the younger in his mid 60’s, the other a lady in her 90’s. Both dear people and, it transpired, talking about watching Churchill’s funeral. Incredible.

Much later tonight I took a turn around ancient paths that surround our village and watched the sky turn from yellow, to orange to a burning red. And then, just like that, she was gone.

God bless you my Queen.

Long live the King.
