Jatulintarha in Finby, Nauvo

It was time to say goodbye to Villa Wallden, we'll see again next summer!

We had couple of stops before driving to home: first we went to Finby in Nauvo. We wanted to see the mysterious jatulintarha / jungfrudans / Troy Town, a labyrinth lined with stones.

In Finland there are 150 remaining stone labyrinths, they are from the 14th to the 19th century. There were once many hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of these labyrinths around the Baltic Sea, throughout Fennoscandia and the Baltic countries.

For some reason these northern labyrinths are almost all close to the sea, as is this jatulintarha in Nauvo. Some have suggested that they were markings of seafarers, perhaps even used for navigation. Many of the stone labyrinths around the Baltic coast of Sweden may have been built by fishermen during rough weather. Or were they build for some rituals? Or for good luck? Nobody really knows.

In Finland, similar jatulintarha drawings were painted on the walls of stone churches in the 15th century.

Then we had a walk at silent harbour of Nauvo and our next stop was Nauvo's  old ski-jumping tower, which we just found. (See the extra)

Our last stop was in Parainen, where we had lunch and coffee (in the idyllic Cafe Hallonblad).

Emma and Leevi took care of Peetu while we were on holiday,. We picked up our precious pet from Emma, and it was lovely to be back at home.
