Swan Scarer

Every year the swans that nest on the lake at Mellerstain lose cygnets over the cascade at the bottom of the lake. - There is a strip of stonework at the top of the falls which make it impossible for the cygnets to clamber up to safety. The parents get bored and leave them to their fate - usually fox breakfast! - This year I have strung some colourful baloons along the top of the cascade to warn off the swans - I just hope this works.

Incidently the old Cob on the lake is a bigamist. He has two wives this year. One lot has hatched with three cygnets. The other swan is still sitting.
